Boutique Online Store for Kids in Malta approach Rocksteady to develop a state-of-the-art eCommerce website, providing several web enhancements.

The Whimsy Castle online concept store is dedicated to providing high quality, sustainable, fun and unique products for kids. Targeting contemporary families in Malta, the eCommerce store materialised following the founders’ personal struggles in sourcing functional, sustainable and niche products for their own children.

Over the past few years, the market for children’s products has shifted towards niche and high-quality products with Whimsy Castle positioning itself to offer original creations that are not only beautiful but also stand out from the usual mainstream products and which have that extra wow factor which remaining affordable.

User Experience

The UI/UX of the website was planned thoroughly based on extensive research, best practices and takes into account various other aspects that make up the Google Lighthouse Score of a website including accessibility metrics through data tags for screen readers, colour-contrast ratios between text and backgrounds.


The design and use of bespoke hand-drawn icons and vectors as well as the playful feel of fun and friendly poems make the eCommerce platform completely unique in the local market while also standing out abroad, having received several international enquiries despite only launching a few months ago.


We know that competition is bound to copy features, certain advanced features such as the waitlist, wishlist and gift registry will ensure that the website always remains one step ahead. Furthermore, the checkout process was designed to offer the opportunity to up/cross-sell products during checkout, based on what the user already has in their cart.

Visual Appeal

The information presented on the website was created in a way to allow the user to get all the information they need at a glance. This is achieved by utilising the available space by ensuring a balance between content and white space, as well as the above-the-fold content (landing) of each page gives all the key information the user is looking for.

Critical information is captured and used throughout a customer’s online visit.

The website makes use of Google Analytics tracking using their Universal Tracking Code in addition to the Facebook Pixel to track the customers’ journey across organic or paid adverts and the website. Events and goals are set up to further assist in analysing the data.

The website also makes use of Hotjat to monitor heat maps and trends to constantly improve the UI/UX and drive more conversions/sales through better positioning of products and CTA’s.
